Good Day Folks,
Elite Skills Hockey will be running a open morning session specialized for Defenseman.
Every Friday there will be a e-mail sent to confirm who will be in attendance for
the following Monday session. (please reply)
On Saturday a confirmation email will be sent to parents that the session is a go.
These session will cover all aspects of what it takes to be a Defenseman.
Topics covered will include:
Skating, edge work, shooting, passing, stick handling, gap control, offensive zone techniques, defensive zone techniques, evasions, proper positioning, learning to think the game etc.........
Parents are always welcome to call me at any time to inform me about there kids progress.

We will help the player analyze the game played from a mental perspective. Being a smarter player, understanding the game, can develop your son or daughter's game to a new level. We will travel, video, and take notes about the game. Accompanied by the guardian, we will tutor the player in the right direction. The player will also receive a edited copy of the game they played, with a personal highlight reel.

WISE WORDS FROM A VETERAN NHL DEFENSMAN ! Jay McKee May 19
One thing I absolutely despise is seeing parents at youth hockey games snapping on their kids while walking out of the arena or while in their car after a game. Equally as painful is the parents who feel the need to bitch at coaches about their kids' playing time. Let the kids play and enjoy themselves. Let them grow, develop, make mistakes, learn etc, etc. Having a bad game at age 11 is not going to make or break their NHL career. Encourage them, support them, believe in them and be their safety net when they're down on themselves.
In my first OHL season after being drafted 10th overall, I played in 51 games and finished the season with 0 goals and 1 assist. There were some games where I literally got zero ice time - I sat on the bench and watched the whole game, waiting for my name to be called, but it never came. I'd take my gear off after the game and wonder if there was even any reason to shower.
Through that season and every year of hockey I played before that, since the age of 4, my parents never bitched to coach about my ice time. Nor did they ever get pissed at me for having a terrible game.
THANK YOU, Mom and Dad for always being respectable parents. Thank you for letting me fail many times, allowing me to pick myself back up and learn from the experiences. Thank you for supporting me and being my safety net when times were great and when times were tough. Thank you for not embarrassing me, but on the contrary making me very proud as a child and even more so as a adult, now that I can look back and truly understand how great of parents you both were.
